Helicopter saver is a new solution to save helicopters from hitting the ground in case of an engine failure.
It is a completely autonomous and independent subsystem designed to detect imminent terrain contact.
It utilizes 4 jet engines that can stabilize the helicopter to horizontal and slow it down from potentially terminal velocity.
It performs a "suicide burn" just at the right time to hit zero vertical and horizontal velocity at the time of ground contact.
Jet engine maximum thrust is chosen to be able to counter the helicopter's maximum gross weight.
Thrust vectoring is used to keep the helicopter stable and make sure to hit zero velocity at the time of ground contact.
Helicopter terminal velocity is around 200 m/s. This can be countered with the properly chosen jet engine maximum thrust.
